OpenAI plans to continue operating Sora as a separate app
OpenAI is reportedly preparing to introduce its artificial intelligence (AI) video generator Sora within ChatGPT, according to a report published Tuesday by The Information citing people familiar with the matter.
Sora is part of OpenAI’s broader push into multimodal artificial intelligence, which combines text, images and video generation within a single ecosystem.
The tool competes with similar text-to-video technologies being developed by major tech companies including Meta Platforms and Google, owned by Alphabet Inc..
While text-based AI tools have already become widely used both at home and in workplaces, video and image generation technologies are increasingly viewed as the next major frontier for AI development.
OpenAI first introduced Sora as a standalone application in September 2025.
The platform allows users to create short videos generated from text prompts and share them through social-media-style feeds. Users can also remix or build on existing visual content to create new clips.
According to the report, OpenAI plans to continue operating Sora as a separate app even after integrating the technology into ChatGPT.
