BTS drop new album ‘Arirang’ ahead of massive Seoul comeback concert
Global K-pop sensation BTS has released its highly anticipated fifth studio album 'Arigang'
Global K-pop sensation BTS has released its highly anticipated fifth studio album Arirang, marking a significant moment in the group’s return to music following a nearly four-year hiatus.
The album, unveiled on Friday, arrives just ahead of the group’s open-air comeback concert in the heart of Seoul, where approximately 260,000 fans are expected to gather.
The performance will be BTS’s first major live show since all seven members completed South Korea’s mandatory military service.
Comprising 14 tracks, Arirang reflects a more mature artistic direction, with the group drawing deeply from their Korean heritage and identity.
The album’s title is inspired by Arirang, a traditional folk song often regarded as an unofficial national anthem of South Korea, symbolising themes of longing and separation.
“We gave deep thought to our identity and how best to express ourselves authentically,” member Jimin said in a statement, emphasising the group’s renewed focus on their cultural roots.
The album opens with Body to Body and closes with Into the Sun, showcasing a blend of contemporary pop with traditional influences.
An animated trailer accompanying the release references historical elements, including recordings of Korean students singing Arirang in the late 19th century.
Excitement has surged across Seoul ahead of the comeback concert, with hotels fully booked and thousands of international fans arriving in the city.
Streets near major landmarks such as Gwanghwamun Square have been adorned with banners welcoming BTS and their global fanbase, known as ARMY.
The group’s return also signals the next phase of their global dominance, with an 82-date world tour planned following the Seoul concert.
BTS is expected to perform several tracks from Arirang during the show, which will take place against the historic backdrop of Gyeongbokgung Palace.
