Barry Keoghan has candidly addressed the psychological toll of online abuse, revealing that persistent social media criticism regarding his appearance has led him to withdraw from public life.

Speaking on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up on Friday, the 33-year-old actor admitted that the "nasty side" of the internet has begun to impact his mental well-being and his professional confidence.

The Peaky Blinders star expressed deep concern that his three-year-old son, Brando, will eventually encounter these hurtful comments as he grows older.

The actor described a cycle of anxiety triggered by digital feedback, noting that he now frequently avoids attending events or going outside.

"It's made me shy away, it's made me really go inside myself and not want to attend places, not want to go outside," Keoghan stated.

He further explained that this "abuse" is no longer just a personal grievance but a threat to his creative output. "When that starts leaking into your art, it becomes a problem, because then you don't even want to be on screen anymore," he added.

Keoghan is currently filming The Beatles - A Four-Film Cinematic Event, in which he portrays Ringo Starr. He acknowledged that although he has an "incredible fanbase," the persistent negativity has forced him to heavily remove himself from online spaces.

He described the situation as a growing problem, being "absolutely pure and honest" about the fact that he now avoids certain locations specifically to escape the scrutiny of those who critique his physical appearance.
