Sosie Bacon reveals why she nearly rejected her first role with Kevin Bacon
Kevin Bacon returns to directing after twenty years with new family project
Sosie Bacon has reflected on her initial reluctance to enter the acting profession alongside her parents, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, during the premiere of their new collaborative project.
Speaking at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin on 13 March, the 34-year-old actress recalled her debut in the 2005 film Loverboy, which was directed by her father. At the age of 11, she originally resisted the role, preferring to remain in education.
She remembered: “He directed me in Loverboy, which I did when I was 11, and actually initially I was like, ‘I’m not doing that movie,’ Thanks for the offer. I’m good. I want to stay in school. I’m 11.”
The family has now reunited for the horror-comedy Family Movie, which features Kevin, Kyra, Sosie, and her brother Travis Bacon. The plot follows a filmmaking family forced to cover up a real murder on their film set to continue production.
Kevin Bacon, returning to the director's chair for the first time in nearly two decades, co-directed the feature with Sedgwick.
Sosie praised the professional environment created by her parents, noting their respect for her individual craft.
She stated: “He ended up doing it. It was a lot of fun, and I think he's great to work with. They both are. They’re very respectful of your own process as an actor.”
Screenwriter Dan Beers developed the script after individual consultations with the family to ensure an accurate portrayal of their unique dynamics on screen.
