Martin Short appeared solemn as he stepped out in Santa Monica — marking his first public appearance since the unexpected loss of his daughter Katherine.

The “Only Murders in the Building” actor donned what looked like a black blazer over a blue button-down shirt while dining with his longtime friend, J.J. Abrams, in the coastal city on Friday night. Short chose to skip the tie and was freshly shaved.

At 76, Short looked somber as he got into a vehicle with the “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” filmmaker, with the two seemingly engaged in conversation during their outing.

This outing occurs during what has been a challenging year. Martin's only daughter, Katherine Short, passed away on February 24 at 42 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, as stated on a death certificate issued by the Los Angeles County Dept of Public Health, according to TMZ.

“With deep sorrow, we acknowledge the passing of Katherine Hartley Short,” a representative for the comedian stated to Page Six last month.

“The Short family is heartbroken by this tragedy, requesting privacy at this time,” the statement continued. “Katherine was cherished by everyone and will be remembered for the brightness and joy she brought to the world.”

Martin has since decided to take some personal time, postponing two shows that were previously set with Steve Martin.

“Due to unforeseen events, the show featuring Steve Martin & Martin Short originally set for Friday (February 27) in Milwaukee, has been rescheduled,” noted the Pabst Theater Group on its website Tuesday, adding that tickets will “remain valid for a future date.”

The comedic partners also rescheduled a show initially planned for Feb. 28 in Minneapolis.

Katherine — whom Martin shared with his late wife, Nancy Dolan, along with two grown sons — had openly discussed her mental health challenges, revealing on a since-deleted professional website that she had a service dog.

“Joni is my amazing service dog, assisting me in navigating my own mental health struggles for the past five years,” Katherine wrote alongside a photo of the dog, who was named after Joni Mitchell.

“Joni often accompanies me in the office, snuggled up on her bed,” the clinical social worker wrote.

“She’s a total sweetheart and adores people, so don’t be surprised if she welcomes you with a smile, a wagging tail….and maybe even a kiss.”

Following Katherine’s passing, Short received support from Hollywood — at the Oscars on March 15, Conan O’Brien, the show’s host, paid tribute to the celebrated actor while closing the event.

“We love you, Martin Short! Good night!” O’Brien declared.
