Demi Lovato teases surprises for upcoming tour while prioritizing recovery
The singer integrates vocal training into workouts to stay stage-ready for her upcoming shows
Demi Lovato is gearing up for her upcoming It’s Not That Deep tour while making a conscious effort to prioritize her mental health and share her journey with fans.
“I make sure to see my therapist virtually and my dietitian virtually, so I’m in contact with my treatment team, and they help keep me sane and ready for anything,” Lovato, 33, told Us Weekly exclusively.
“As long as I’m putting in the effort there, my mental health stays pretty sturdy and I feel good. I listen to my body, I listen to my mind. I just pay attention to what my needs are, and I make sure that I meet them.”
The tour kicks off on April 8 and will feature music from her ninth studio album, along with fan favorites from her decades-long career. When asked about potential surprises in her setlist, Lovato stayed coy.
“You’ll just have to wait and see,” she teased. “There might be a surprise every night in regards to music that I sing, and I might be doing even newer music that you haven’t heard yet.”
Lovato is preparing meticulously for the shows, incorporating vocal practice into her workout routines.
“I’m practicing them on the treadmill so that I’m not out of breath when I hit the stage,” she said. “I’m in tour rehearsals. I’m preparing right now as we speak, I’m about to go to tour rehearsals. I’m really doing as much as I can to be prepared for these shows.”
Amid tour prep, Lovato is also celebrating the release of her first cookbook, One Plate at a Time.
Open about her recovery from bulimia nervosa, she hopes her book inspires others navigating disordered eating.
“It gets better. Recovery is possible,” Lovato said. “You deserve to fuel your body, nourish your body. You’re worthy of recovery. If you feel intimidated by the kitchen, just know that the more you do it, the more confidence you’ll gain in the kitchen. Like I said, recovery is possible and you deserve it.”
Reflecting on her journey, Lovato shared what she would tell her younger self: “I would also want to tell her, ‘One day you’ll have your own cookbook.’ That’s something that I never thought that I would have because I was so over-stimulated by the kitchen and intimidated by food. But if you put enough work into yourself, one day you’ll get to a place of freedom with it and you’ll be able to help others.”
Lovato also highlighted her partnership with TheraBreath, which she credits with helping her feel confident and prepared, whether performing on stage or spending time with loved ones.
“For me, it’s about those get ready moments right before I step on stage or head into a meeting or the studio. It can just make all the difference,” she said.
“When your breath feels fresh, you feel more open, more like yourself, and you’re ready to take on anything. It gives you that confidence that you need to do what you need to do. That’s what TheraBreath represents to me. It helps me feel unstoppable.”
