Trista Sutter is speaking out after a dramatic turn of events surrounding the future of The Bachelorette.

The former reality star, who became the franchise’s first leading lady, addressed ABC’s decision to pull Taylor Frankie Paul’s season just days before its scheduled premiere, calling the situation “a whirlwind.”

The network halted the season on March 19 following the emergence of footage involving Paul and her ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, amid an ongoing domestic assault investigation in Utah.

In a statement at the time, Disney Entertainment Television said the decision was made to prioritize the well-being of those involved.

Speaking at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, Sutter emphasized compassion while acknowledging the seriousness of the situation.

“Everyone goes through stuff, everyone makes mistakes,” she said, adding that her concern is especially for the child involved.

“I know there’s a lot of growth that needs to happen,” Sutter continued. “And she’s got a lot of support, including from me.”

Sutter, who found lasting love with husband Ryan Sutter on the show more than two decades ago, also reflected on what the controversy could mean for the long-running franchise.

“It’s shocking and sad,” she said. “It’s what brought me my family. So if it’s all over, it will make me sad.” Still, she expressed hope that the series will continue.

The situation unfolded shortly after Sutter and several former Bachelorettes gathered to welcome Paul into the franchise during a pre-premiere special.

“That was a really special day,” she recalled, noting how quickly the mood shifted in the days that followed.

Authorities have confirmed an open investigation related to a February 2026 incident involving Paul and Mortensen.

Both parties have since issued statements, with Paul’s representatives emphasizing her focus on her family’s safety and well-being.
