Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar express heartbreak following son's arrest
Florida authorities arrest Joseph Duggar for lewd and lascivious conduct involving nine-year-old victim
Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have broken their silence following the arrest of their son, Joseph Duggar, on multiple felony charges involving a minor.
A spokesperson for the family confirmed on Monday that the parents are "heartbroken over this entire situation" and are currently focused on "loving their family and helping Kendra and her children during this difficult time."
Joseph, 31, was arrested on 18 March and charged by Florida’s Bay County Sheriff’s Office with lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim under twelve years old.
An official affidavit alleges that the former reality television star confessed to the repeated abuse of a nine-year-old girl during a recorded telephone conversation with the child’s father and a local detective.
The legal crisis extends to Arkansas, where Joseph and his wife, Kendra Duggar, 27, face separate charges of endangering the welfare of a minor and false imprisonment.
While Kendra is currently out on bail, a spokesperson emphasised that her charges are "totally unrelated" to the felonies filed against her husband in Florida, stating she is not suspected of participating in his alleged crimes.
Joseph was transferred from Arkansas custody on 27 March to face the more severe Florida allegations. These developments follow the 2022 conviction of Joseph’s elder brother, Josh Duggar, who is currently serving a twelve-year federal prison sentence for the possession of illicit material depicting minors.
The Duggars, who rose to fame on the TLC franchise 19 Kids and Counting, have requested privacy as they navigate these overlapping legal battles.
Joseph and Kendra, married since 2017, are both scheduled to appear in an Arkansas courtroom on 29 April 2026 to address the charges of secondary-degree false imprisonment.
