Former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert has been taken into custody on accusations of attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault involving the father of the band’s lead singer, Brendan Yates.

According to Montgomery County Police in Maryland, William Yates endured significant leg injuries, including a fracture, when Ebert reportedly struck him with a vehicle outside his Silver Spring residence on Sunday, as reported by The Baltimore Banner.

The Grammy-winning ensemble conveyed to the publication in a statement that they “severed all connections” with Ebert in 2022 due to “an ongoing pattern of detrimental conduct impacting himself, the group, and the community,” noting that he “initiated violent threats” at that time, which “intensified recently.”

During a Thursday court appearance, Ebert remains in detention without bail as Montgomery County District Court Judge Sherri Koch cited the nature of the accusations as violent and deliberate.

Members of the Yates family reported that Ebert approached while blaring his horn and shouting insults.

Surveillance video captures William retreating into the driveway attempting to evade impact, throwing a stone at Ebert’s car.

Ebert backed up and sharply turned into the driveway, striking William as he sought to flee.

Following successful surgery for William, the band expressed their hope for “the best possible result for his healing," also stating, “We are out of words for Brady.”

The episode unfolds after Turnstile secured their initial two Grammy Awards in February, winning Best Metal Performance for their track ‘Birds’ and Best Rock Album for Never Enough.
