Zara Larsson slams double standards in fame and praises Chappell Roan
'The more people hate her, the more I love her,' Larsson said of Chappell Roan
Swedish pop star Zara Larsson has expressed her support for fellow singer Chappell Roan, who has recently spoken out about invasive behavior from fans and paparazzi.
Larsson, known for hits like Lush Life, praised Roan’s stance in an interview with The Guardian, saying, “The more people hate her, the more I love her. I don't like how she's being treated at all. When a woman has boundaries, I think people freak out. Men can do violent criminal things and people applaud them, but when a woman says, ‘Stop following me,’ it’s controversial? It’s like, you guys just hate women, actually.”
While Larsson herself enjoys the attention that comes with fame, she said she respects artists who draw clear boundaries.
“I kind of thrive on attention in all forms. When I was younger, I was like: ‘Oh, I can't wait till I have paparazzi outside my house,’” she admitted.
She also highlighted her friendship with Addison Rae, noting, “I think we both realise that life is a performance.”
Larsson has become increasingly outspoken about issues she believes in, stating that she refuses to compromise her morals even if it costs her opportunities.
She recounted losing a $3 million brand deal after joking about abortion with a fan on social media: “I was genuinely like: OK, losers!”
The Can't Tame Her singer also cited inspiration from legendary female artists like Madonna and fellow Swede Robyn, applauding their unapologetic approach to performance and aging in the music industry.
“I think it’s (seen as) OK to be horny and 40 unless you look 40. But if you dare show signs of ageing, then you're discarded and put on a shelf and told you shouldn’t speak about sex. I think it’s so refreshing that Madonna is still out there, and Robyn is like: ‘This is me, this is what I look like, and I’m still hot,’” Larsson said.
