Mel B rules out Spice Girls reunion, says honesty needed for documentary
Despite stepping back from performing, Mel B shares fond memories and Instagram tributes
Melanie “Mel B” Brown has opened up about the possibility of a Spice Girls documentary, but she warns it would require complete honesty from all members of the iconic girl group.
In an interview with HELLO!, the 50-year-old singer reflected on the band’s upcoming 30th anniversary, marking the release of their debut single and album this year.
“I think we’ve all been asked and were all thinking about it at some point,” Mel B said. “It has to be done in the right way. There’s just one caveat: it has to be honest — and not everybody wants to be honest.”
The Spice Girls, including Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Emma Bunton, and Victoria Beckham, have long been rumored to consider anniversary projects. When asked about a potential reunion tour, Mel B shut down speculation.
“I can tell you it’s not happening,” she said. “If it does, it’ll be a shock to me, let’s put it that way. When I look at that [tour] and the feeling it gave me, I was in my element, but there comes a time… I’m 50. You can’t be nagging everyone to go on tour if they don’t want to. I laid that to rest when I turned 50.”
Despite stepping back from performing, Mel B expressed love and admiration for her former bandmates.
“I wouldn’t be sitting here if it wasn’t for me being part of the Spice Girls,” she said. “They’ve done a lot for me as a person and in my life. I’ve got fond memories, but I don’t know if I would want to go back up on stage.”
While she did not attend Emma Bunton’s 50th birthday celebration earlier this year, Mel B shared a heartfelt Instagram tribute to her longtime friend, calling her “BABY” and celebrating their decades-long bond.
