Savannah Guthrie conveyed a heartfelt Easter message as her mom, Nancy Guthrie, remains missing.

The “Today” show host appeared in a video for Good Shepherd New York’s online Easter service on Sunday.

Guthrie discussed the significance of Easter and the joy it traditionally brings, before admitting to going through a challenging period.

“Today, we celebrate the assurance of new life that transcends death. Standing here now, I must express that there are times when that assurance feels incredibly distant,” she reflected. “When life itself feels more daunting than death.”

“Experiencing deep disappointment with God, the sense of being completely forsaken,” she elaborated. “For many, there will come moments in life when these emotions take hold.”

Guthrie further mentioned that her faith instructs her to find solace in knowing that Jesus also went through suffering. Yet, she admitted to currently questioning these feelings.

“Lately, amid my own trials, I have wondered, I have questioned whether Jesus truly experienced this specific pain that I feel, this grievous and uniquely harsh injury of not knowing, of uncertainty and confusion and withheld answers.”

“In the darkest times, I have thought bitterly and perhaps irreverently that I have stumbled upon a feeling unfamiliar to Jesus.”

She emphasised that “it’s not wrong to have these thoughts, to approach our God with questions.” Guthrie expressed her desire to fully acknowledge her feelings of loss, pain, and even death.

“It is the darkness that makes this morning’s light so spectacular, so dazzlingly beautiful. It shines brighter because it is so desperately needed,” she clarified.

“So this morning, I close my eyes and feel the sunlight,” she continued. “I envision a bright day when heaven and earth become one because they are unified here on earth as in heaven.”

“As we celebrate today, this is what we commemorate. And I celebrate as well. I continue to believe. So with conviction, I say, Happy Easter.”
