Renowned 80s musician Gary Numan recently shared that he has lost 90% of his hearing, necessitating the use of hearing aids after years of performing at high volume.

At 68, Gary has been in the music scene since the late 1970s, initially with the band Tubeway Army, and later carving out a successful solo career, becoming a trailblazer in electronic music.

Performing tracks like "Cars" and "Are 'Friends' Electric?" over the years seems to have significantly impacted Gary’s auditory health.

During his appearance on the ‘I’m ADHD! No You’re Not’ podcast, Gary informed hosts Paul Whitehouse and Dr. Mine Conkbayir that he is now “90 percent deaf.”

Gesturing to his hearing devices, he mentioned, "I’m wearing hearing aids now... you can see them here."

Paul humorously noted that Gary’s ears likely suffered due to continuous use of amplifiers at full blast over five decades, to which Gary concurred.

He explained that deteriorating hearing was a primary reason for giving up his passion for display flying.

This health update follows closely after his wife Gemma’s announcement about being left paralysed due to issues from spine surgery.

Gemma, at 57, shared in February via social media her condition of being treated for a herniated disc.

She posted an image taken with Gary when they were at London’s Kew Gardens.

Alongside the picture, Gemma expressed: “Still healing from the loss of function in my left arm after complex spine surgery from late last year.

"Heartbroken! Haven’t been home since September 9! I long to see my pets; their absence makes me feel quite ill.”

“I've seen my little ones! Gary has been taking care of me in the UK this whole time! And I video call my babies!”

Gary and Gemma share three daughters—Raven, 22, Persia, 20, and Echo Moon, 18—and they currently live in Los Angeles, while her surgery was performed in London.
