Cameron Diaz labels new Apple TV comedy 'Outcome' a cautionary tale
Cameron Diaz likens her long-standing film career to an old leather saddle
Cameron Diaz has shared intimate reflections on her expansive Hollywood journey during a discussion with PEOPLE regarding her latest film, Outcome.
As the celebrity-themed comedy prepares to debut on Apple TV today, the actress offered a candid perspective on a career spanning over three decades.
"It's a journey. I think it's different for everybody. It's been 30-some odd years," Diaz tells PEOPLE. Discussing her longevity in the industry, she used a rustic metaphor to describe her comfort with public life.
"You kinda sit in, just like an old saddle, you know? It's like you've galloped in it, you've trotted in it, you've walked in it, and you kind of settle into it and find your rhythm. That's just kind of how it works. It's hard to explain, you know?"
The 53-year-old star features alongside Keanu Reeves, Matt Bomer, and Jonah Hill in the new production. The plot follows Reeves’ character, Reef Hawk, as he battles extortion attempts that threaten to destroy his reputation.
Diaz, who portrays a lifelong friend of the protagonist, suggests the film serves as a deeper commentary on modern celebrity. "I also think that this movie shows [fame] in a very interesting light and a very heightened light," Diaz adds. "Everybody thinks they want to be famous, but there is a cost to it. So it's a cautionary comedy."
Having debuted in 1994’s The Mask, Diaz recently ended a decade-long hiatus to focus on her family. She is now set to reprise her role in Shrek 5.
