Electronic music titans Afrojack and David Guetta have reunited with vocal powerhouse Sia to release their latest single, "Awake Tonight," on Friday.

The track serves as a significant milestone, marking the first time the trio has collaborated since the 2012 global phenomenon "Titanium."

Afrojack, 38, revealed that while the project had been in development for several years, a recent live performance at the Ultra Music Festival provided the necessary spark to finally complete the production in the studio.

"We've been talking for YEARS about finally getting back in the studio after 'Titanium,' we were working on this track but never got around to finish it," Afrojack told PEOPLE via email.

He explained that after performing their previous hit live last year, "everything just hit different," leading the group to "lock in" and finalise the summer anthem.

The new release features the signature euphoric beats synonymous with the two producers, underpinned by the distinctive, soaring vocals of the 50-year-old Australian singer.

Guetta, 58, has frequently praised Sia as "the biggest talent on the planet," previously noting that "Titanium" was the proudest achievement of his extensive career.

The French DJ admitted that the massive crossover success of their earlier work was unexpected at the time. Following this release, the artists continue their prolific streaks; Sia recently celebrated the tenth anniversary of This Is Acting, while Guetta and Afrojack have both remained active with high-profile collaborations, including "I Went Back to Ibiza" and "Control," ensuring their continued dominance across the global dance music charts.
