Richard Schiff has revealed an unexpectedly embarrassing encounter with his Man of Steel co-star Amy Adams, recalling a moment that left him “red-faced” after he accidentally blurted out “I love you” during a casual conversation.

Speaking in an interview with The Guardian, the 70-year-old actor explained that the incident happened after the pair had worked together and were catching up socially.

“We had run into each other, we’d worked together a couple of times and were friendly, we chatted for a bit, and I said I had to leave, and I blurted it out,” Schiff said. “I still don’t know why.”

He added that the unexpected slip may speak to Adams’ impact on people, noting, “That’s probably a clue as to why the world responds to her the way that they do.”

Schiff, who has been married to actress Sheila Kelley since 1996, also reflected on other Hollywood relationships and friendships during the interview.

He shared that he once had a crush on actress Diane Keaton, with whom he briefly connected after working together.

“I worked with her once but had the good fortune to meet her later; we had a wonderful hour-long conversation about who knows what,” he said.

Despite the lighthearted revelations, Schiff emphasized that his long-term focus remains on his marriage to Kelley.

The couple, who share two children, have also collaborated professionally, including on The Good Doctor, where they played on-screen partners.

“We are more in love now than ever,” Schiff said of his wife, adding that working together has only strengthened their bond.

The pair previously appeared together in the 1997 comedy-drama Santa Fe, though they did not share scenes at the time.
