Labrinth breaks silence on ‘Euphoria’ exit, slams industry behaviour
Hans Zimmer is set to replace him for the show’s third season score
Labrinth has spoken out about his departure from the hit HBO series Euphoria, claiming he stepped away from the show’s music after refusing to tolerate poor treatment in the industry.
The 37-year-old artist, who composed the acclaimed score for the show’s first two seasons, confirmed via social media that he is no longer involved in the upcoming third season, which will instead feature music from composer Hans Zimmer.
In a series of Instagram Story posts, Labrinth criticized industry practices, writing that people can “comfortably lie in this industry” while still presenting themselves as honest. He added that he chose to remove his music from the project entirely.
He further stated that while he maintained a positive relationship with HBO, his decision came after personal boundaries were crossed, adding that he refuses to be “treated like s---” while working on creative projects.
Labrinth had previously shared a more emotional message suggesting frustration with both the music industry and his involvement with Euphoria, even hinting at stepping away from music altogether in a separate post.
His comments follow earlier confirmation from Euphoria creator Sam Levinson that the series is undergoing a creative shift for its third season, including a time jump that moves the story further into the characters’ futures.
Levinson explained that the show’s new direction required a different musical approach, with less emphasis on its earlier “pop-rooted” sound and more on a score that reflects the evolved tone of the series.
Meanwhile, star Zendaya has suggested that the upcoming third season may also serve as the series’ conclusion.
Speaking on The Drew Barrymore Show, she reflected on the emotional impact of playing Rue Bennett, saying the character has deeply shaped her life and career.
