Dan Bucatinsky shares rare update on family life with husband Don Roos
The actor says he’s enjoying family life before becoming an empty nester
Dan Bucatinsky has opened up about parenting two very different teenagers with his husband, Don Roos, revealing that neither of their children appears interested in following in their Hollywood footsteps.
The 60-year-old Scandal and The Comeback actor shares daughter Eliza, 21, and son Jonah, 18, with Roos, whom he married in 2008. The couple has been together for more than three decades.
While speaking with People magazine about raising teenagers, Bucatinsky joked that parenting guides rarely prepare families for what actually comes next.
He described the transition into adolescence and young adulthood as both challenging and rewarding, noting that his children have grown into individuals with distinctly different interests from their parents.
He said both Eliza and Jonah are forging their own paths, with no current interest in entertainment careers.
“They’re not interested in anything that I’m in,” he said, adding that neither child watches his shows regularly.
Jonah, currently finishing high school, has developed a strong interest in military topics and audiovisual production. Bucatinsky described him as “military-obsessed” and said he is actively involved in his school’s news station, where he helps run audio and production work behind the scenes.
While the teenager once briefly considered modeling after hearing about potential earnings, Bucatinsky said the idea quickly passed.
He added that his son is more likely to pursue work in technical or production roles rather than on-screen performance.
His daughter Eliza, meanwhile, is focused on early adulthood milestones, including getting her driver’s license and exploring job opportunities while figuring out her long-term direction.
Despite their lack of interest in acting, Bucatinsky said he would fully support them if they ever changed their minds, noting that he would be happy to guide them if they entered the industry.
For now, he and Roos are simply enjoying having their children at home before they eventually leave for adulthood. “It won’t be forever, but for now it’s kind of nice,” he said.
