Antony Starr, the actor behind the complex and villainous Homelander in The Boys, has officially embraced his status as a digital icon.

During a recent appearance on TODAY, Starr hilariously acknowledged that his professional life has taken an unexpected turn toward internet culture.

When asked to recreate some of his most famous facial expressions from the series, Starr quipped: “Memes are what I'm in it for, man… My career is now about memes."

The actor’s portrayal of the unstable superhero has sparked countless viral clips, a phenomenon Starr finds both surprising and gratifying.

He noted that he never anticipated the "worst character on the show" would become its most recognisable face in pop culture.

During the interview, Starr playfully refused to recreate the memes without the proper context, telling the hosts: “The sound effects need to go with the meme… It’s very weird if you don’t do it. That’s just cruel.”

Rather than shying away from the parody, Starr is actively encouraging his fanbase to continue their creativity. He dared fans to "go wild," stating that "the worse the better" and "the more silly I look, the happier I am."

He even singled out one specific viral clip as his favourite, noting that his exaggerated expressions almost look like a special effect.

As fans prepare for the third episode of the final season of The Boys to drop on Prime Video on 15 April, Starr remains thrilled by his unique position in the current cultural zeitgeist.
