The husband of missing American citizen Lynette Hooker has been released from custody in the Bahamas without being charged.

Brian Hooker, 59, was freed on Monday, following his arrest on 8 April in connection with his wife’s mysterious disappearance.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force stated that the decision followed consultation with the Department of Public Prosecutions, which "recommended that no charges be filed at this time pending the outcome of further investigations."

Lynette Hooker, 55, vanished during a dinghy trip from Hope Town to Elbow Cay on the night of 4 April.

According to statements provided by Brian Hooker, his wife "reportedly fell overboard" with the boat keys, leaving him to paddle the vessel back to shore to alert authorities the following morning.

Police noted that Brian claimed "strong currents" carried her away until he eventually lost sight of her. While Brian remains a person of interest, his attorney, Terrel A. Butler, insists he "categorically and unequivocally denies any wrongdoing."

The case has been complicated by public statements from Lynette’s daughter, Karli Aylesworth, who described the couple's relationship as volatile and called for a deep investigation.

Furthermore, rescue officials previously suggested that alcohol may have been a factor in the incident. Despite these claims, Brian maintained on social media that "unpredictable seas and high winds" were the sole cause of the tragedy.

Authorities confirm the search for Lynette continues, while Brian's legal team focuses on his cooperation with the ongoing maritime investigation and future search efforts.
