A nineteen-year-old woman has tragically lost her life after being attacked by a family pet at her home in Essex.

Jamie-Lea Biscoe died from injuries sustained during the incident in Leaden Roding, approximately 40 miles from London, on Friday.

Emergency services were called to the property at 10.45 p.m., but despite the extensive efforts of paramedics and police officers, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

The dog involved, a family pet of seven years, believed to be a lurcher cross, was seized by authorities. Essex Police stated that tests are currently being conducted to establish the exact breed.

Following the attack, a 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, causing death.

He has since been bailed until July while enquiries continue. Jamie-Lea’s aunt, Maria, has launched a fundraising page to assist with funeral costs, describing her niece as the "kindest, most beautiful young adult" who would have done anything for anyone.

Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper expressed the force's condolences, stating: "Our thoughts remain with all those who knew and loved Jamie-Lea. Her young life has been so tragically cut short."

He noted that detectives are working "around the clock" to establish the circumstances of the "unimaginable" tragedy.

The community remains in shock as specialist officers continue to support the bereaved family. Residents have started leaving floral tributes near the family home as a formal inquest into the death is expected to open later this week.
