Netflix has made significant changes to its lineup this year.

Since the start of 2026, the streamer has axed eight series — including some beloved titles like Alice in Borderland and The Vince Staples Show.

While the decisions might surprise viewers, Netflix leaders have consistently argued that renewals depend on performance.

In a January 2023 discussion with Bloomberg, CEO Ted Sarandos explained the company has “never nixed a successful show."

"Many of these shows had great intentions but reached only a minimal audience with significant budgets," he noted. "The trick lies in reaching a small audience with a small budget and a large audience with a large budget. If you do that well, you can keep doing it indefinitely."

So, which shows didn't quite measure up? Here's a look at eight series that will not return to Netflix in 2026.

The Abandons

Deadline noted in January 2026 that Netflix ended The Abandons, a high-cost Western series featuring Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson.

Creator Kurt Sutter exited the show ahead of its completion and candidly shared the news of its cancellation on Instagram.

"Dear Netflix, The next time fear makes you favor the algorithm over a creator's vision, bear in mind how that decision unraveled what could have been a beautiful project,” the Sons of Anarchy creator stated, as reported by Deadline.

Shortly after posting this message — which also mentioned some of the show's budget figures — he retracted his comments and expressed his "passion sincerely apologizes."

The Vince Staples Show

Following two seasons, Netflix also called off The Vince Staples show in January 2026.

Despite earning high ratings — receiving 94% from critics and 88% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, as noted by Deadline — it failed to garner a substantial audience, ranking No. 1,446 in Netflix’s latter half of 2025 viewership report.

Rapper and show creator Vince Staples, whose life loosely inspired the series, hasn't spoken about the show's cancellation.

Terminator Zero

In February 2026, creator Mattson Tomlin confirmed on X that his animated Netflix series Terminator Zero met its end.

"It's been cancelled," he replied when asked by a fan about the show's fate. "Although both critics and audiences received it well, it sadly didn't attract enough viewers."

Alice in Borderland

While the third season of Alice in Borderland ended with enough ambiguity to suggest a fourth season was possible, Netflix's second-half of 2025 viewership report confirmed the show's conclusion.

Star Tao Tsuchiya had previously commented on the series' future, telling The Hollywood Reporter in September 2025 she believed Alice in Borderland would finish with season 2.

Billionaires' Bunker

In December 2025, Netflix confirmed to El País that it had discontinued the Spanish psychological thriller Billionaires' Bunker.

Despite a cliffhanger ending for its first season, the streamer decided not to proceed with another season after it failed to maintain viewership and received mostly negative reviews.

Class

Although initially renewed, the Hindi remake of the popular Spanish series Elite was not extended beyond its first season, as revealed by one of its actors on Instagram.

“Sadly, we couldn't bring you another season because sometimes, things take a different turn," Class actor Gurfateh Pirzada shared with fans, according to Men's Journal.

Pop the Balloon

Deadline stated in February 2026 that Netflix's live dating series Pop the Balloon wouldn't make a return for a second season.

Hosted by Yvonne Orji, Pop the Balloon debuted in April 2025, following contestants who were evaluated by a panel of singles who would "pop" a balloon to indicate disinterest.

Miss Governor

In March 2026, Miss Governor star Terri J. Vaughn disclosed that the Tyler Perry-produced series would not have another season on Netflix.

“I must admit, I was quite devastated when I initially heard the news," the actress shared in an Instagram video, according to Blavity. "I put in a lot of effort to make that show happen."
