Authorities in Washington State have arrested a man accused of throwing a chainsaw out of a vehicle window at deputies during a high-speed pursuit.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident began on Sunday, when officers responded to a report of a stolen car in Parkland.

Upon spotting the vehicle, deputies attempted a traffic stop, which quickly escalated into a chase as the suspects fled toward the highway.

Inside the stolen car were two men who allegedly went to extreme lengths to evade capture. "Things get a little interesting from here when the passenger decides to throw out a chainsaw and other rope-type items out the passenger window in an attempt to disable or crash the police vehicles behind them," the sheriff’s office stated.

Despite these hazards, the pursuit continued until the vehicle exited the highway and became stuck, forcing both suspects to flee on foot.

The 31-year-old passenger, whose identity has not been released, was apprehended after being bitten by a police dog.

He now faces serious charges, including possession of motor vehicle theft tools, eluding, and first-degree assault.

Officials noted the assault charge stems from the act of "throwing the chainsaw and ropes gear out the window to potentially disable or crash the deputies' vehicles."

The 28-year-old driver was also detained and booked on charges of felony eluding and motor vehicle theft.

This dramatic arrest highlights the dangerous obstacles law enforcement officers can face during vehicle thefts and subsequent highway pursuits.
