Anthropic seeks expert for high-paying data centre negotiations in European AI growth
Investment by US hyperscalers in AI infrastructure is forecasted to exceed $600bn by 2026
Anthropic is intensifying efforts to finalise European data centre agreements that will support its AI technologies, as it seeks to appoint a position focused on negotiating computational capacity within the area.
Investment by US hyperscalers in AI infrastructure is forecasted to exceed $600 billion by 2026.
Anthropic aims to take advantage of this trend, having publicised numerous data center agreements in the US recently.
Although there have been no announcements in Europe yet, developments may soon occur.
Anthropic is presently seeking a principal tasked with leading the commercial sourcing and execution process of transactions for its European data center capacity agreements, as per a job advertisement published in London.
Anthropic chose not to comment on the job posting or its intentions concerning data centers in Europe.
The company is coming off the back of several AI infrastructure transactions. This week, Anthropic revealed its commitment to investing over $100 billion in Amazon Web Services technology over the following decade.
Earlier this month, the company also expanded its deal with Broadcom for around 3.5 gigawatts of computing power.
According to an insider familiar with the discussions, Anthropic is currently exploring agreements to acquire data center capacity directly from developers "worldwide," as told to CNBC.
The 'Transaction Principal' role will offer a salary between £225,000 ($303,806) and £270,000, being "essential" for securing the infrastructure needed for Anthropic's advanced AI systems across Europe.
Duties involve identifying commercial agreements for European data centers, engaging in developer outreach, and negotiating terms.
The candidate should have an understanding of the data center market in "FLAP-D hubs" — referring to Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris and Dublin — as well as markets such as the Nordics and Southern Europe.
Anthropic is also recruiting for a comparable role based in Australia.
The Nordics have emerged as critical sites for AI infrastructure in Europe due to lower energy expenses.
Recently, Microsoft reported it would be acquiring additional computing capacity at an Nscale facility in Norway.
At the time, OpenAI stated it was consulting with the large tech firm to rent computing resources, having previously planned to secure capacity directly from Nscale.
In March, Nebius announced intentions to create one of Europe's largest AI manufacturing sites in Finland.
