Laura Dern joins 'The White Lotus' season 4 after Helena Bonham Carter exit
The upcoming season features a fresh ensemble and new storylines
Laura Dern has officially joined the cast of The White Lotus Season 4, stepping into a newly created role after the sudden departure of Helena Bonham Carter, according to reports.
Production on the latest season of the hit HBO series, created by Mike White, is already underway in France, with filming taking place across locations including Cannes, St. Tropez, Monaco, and Paris.
Dern, 59, will portray a brand-new character written specifically for her, rather than taking over the role originally intended for Bonham Carter, who exited the project shortly before filming began.
An HBO spokesperson previously confirmed that the character created for Bonham Carter “did not align once on set,” adding that the role was being rewritten and recast.
The network expressed disappointment over her departure while leaving the door open for future collaboration.
The casting of Dern marks a reunion between the actress and White, who previously worked together on Enlightened, the critically acclaimed series they co-created and starred in. Dern also made a brief voice cameo in The White Lotus Season 2.
Season 4 of the anthology series will follow a new group of guests and staff at a luxury hotel during the Cannes Film Festival, unfolding over the course of a week, according to the official storyline.
The new season features a star-studded ensemble cast, including Alexander Ludwig, Kumail Nanjiani, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, and Max Greenfield, alongside several new additions.
