Joey Fatone has revealed a disturbing encounter from the early days of NSYNC fame, in which a fan allegedly attempted a paternity scam involving his family.

Speaking in Boy Band Confidential: Deep Cuts, Fatone recounted how a woman unexpectedly showed up at his parents’ home while he was on tour, claiming he was the father of her child.

Fatone said his father was first approached at the door before his mother later contacted him in distress, relaying the woman’s claims.

The singer recalled initially being stunned and fearing the situation could seriously impact his career and personal life.

According to Fatone, the woman insisted she was not seeking money and claimed they had met years earlier during one of NSYNC’s earliest performances in the mid-1990s. The accusation escalated quickly, leaving the family shaken.

The situation later intensified when legal documents were filed against him, including a paternity lawsuit requesting a DNA test and a birth certificate listing Fatone as the child’s father.

Fatone said his mother was particularly alarmed by the paperwork, but closer inspection raised suspicions. He noticed inconsistencies in the documents, including mismatched fonts and signs of alteration.

“That’s when I realized something wasn’t right,” he explained, adding that the evidence suggested the paperwork had been manipulated.

Fatone ultimately concluded the claim was part of a scam designed to attract media attention and potentially financial gain through fabricated publicity.

The former boy band member said the ordeal highlighted the pressures of fame and the unexpected legal and personal risks that can come with public life during peak celebrity exposure.
