General Motors plans to integrate Google’s Gemini AI assistant into approximately four million cars in the United States.

Vehicles from the 2022 model year and newer from Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC, equipped with Google software, will be eligible for the AI enhancement.

This update will be available through over-the-air updates for GM's infotainment systems, distributed over several months as per GM's statement.

GM states that this upgrade signifies “one of the largest Gemini deployments within the sector,” asserting that “customers will experience an improved Google Assistant that becomes smarter and more intuitive over time.”

The assistant can handle tasks like sending messages, navigating destinations, providing music suggestions, and more.

The Gemini upgrade aims to deliver a more natural conversation experience, allowing users to make inquiries or requests without needing to remember explicit commands.

Initially, Gemini will be available in US English, with GM aiming to broaden its reach to “more GM markets and additional languages over time.”

GM has reached another noteworthy milestone, reporting that drivers in roughly 750,000 vehicles equipped with Super Cruise technology have covered one billion miles hands-free.

The Super Cruise advanced driver-assistance system isn’t fully autonomous—it instead allows drivers to maintain hand-free control on designated roads in the United States and Canada—but this achievement suggests it could present competition to companies like Tesla.
