Apple TV+ has unveiled a first look at Season 5 of its acclaimed comedy-drama Trying, confirming that the streamer’s longest-running original sitcom will return on July 8 with a weekly episode rollout.
The new season picks up with Nikki and Jason, played by Esther Smith and Rafe Spall, facing fresh disruption in their once-settled family life after the sudden arrival of Princess and Tyler’s biological mother Kat, portrayed by Charlotte Riley.
According to Apple TV+, Kat’s reappearance throws the couple into a whirlwind of emotional complications and unexpected chaos as they continue navigating parenthood.
Season 5 also brings several notable additions to the ensemble cast, including Celia Imrie, Gbemisola Ikumelo and Colin Morgan, joining returning stars Darren Boyd, Siân Brooke and Phil Davis.
Created and written by Andy Wolton, Trying has become one of Apple TV+’s most enduring and warmly received originals since debuting in 2020, earning praise for its heartfelt blend of humor, family tension and emotional storytelling.
The series recently expanded its reach further after being acquired by the BBC in a landmark distribution deal.
Produced by BBC Studios, the fifth season is expected to continue the show’s signature mix of tenderness and domestic upheaval as Nikki and Jason confront a new chapter in their unconventional parenting journey.
