Irish actor Barry Keoghan has officially addressed the viral rumours that he cheated on his former girlfriend, pop star Sabrina Carpenter.

Appearing on the Tuesday episode of the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, hosted by Benny Blanco and Lil Dicky, the 33-year-old Saltburn star denied the allegations that have followed him since the couple split in late 2024.

Keoghan explained that the "untrue narrative" surrounding his personal life eventually led him to withdraw from the spotlight, delete his social media profiles, and stop attending public events.

Keoghan revealed that the cheating claims gained traction following a TikTok video posted by an influencer, who later retracted the story and apologised.

"A girl made a video, and then a girl actually made the same video and went, 'Sorry for making that up,'" Keoghan shared. He expressed frustration that the correction never reached the same audience as the initial lie, stating, "no one seems to latch on to that video."

The actor clarified that he chose to remain silent at the time to avoid involving others in the drama, but the resulting "vile" and "inhumane" comments about his character eventually became overwhelming.

The actor, who rose to global fame with roles in The Banshees of Inisherin and Saltburn, noted that dating in the public eye often results in rumours being "amplified."

Despite the heartbreak and public scrutiny, he emphasised that he is not looking for sympathy but rather a basic level of respect. "I’m asking for people to stop assuming and also stop jumping on this narrative and attacking me," he told the hosts.

This candid interview marks Keoghan’s first major public appearance after months of relative seclusion, as he prepares for upcoming film projects scheduled for release later this year.
