Man arrested after disturbance at Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami
Donald Trump was absent from the Doral resort when the disturbance took place
A man was arrested on Saturday at President Trump's Doral National Golf Club just outside of Miami following an alleged disturbance, according to a statement from the U.S. Secret Service.
Michael Townsend, the acting special agent in charge for the Secret Service Miami division, reported that a man approached a designated security area at the golf club at approximately 4:15pm.
The individual reportedly became "disruptive and failed to comply with lawful orders," leading to a physical confrontation with law enforcement personnel on-site.
The suspect "made physical contact with a member of the Secret Service and was taken into custody without further incident," Townsend confirmed.
Following the encounter, the man was arrested by the Doral Police Department and officially charged with disorderly conduct and resisting an officer without violence.
Authorities have not yet publicly identified the individual involved. Despite the altercation, Townsend emphasised that "at no point did this situation impact the established security posture for the President's visit to Trump Doral National Golf Club by Secret Service." It was further confirmed that Mr. Trump was not at the club at the time of the occurrence.
This security incident follows a period of heightened tension surrounding the President's safety. Just one week prior, shots were fired during the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington, D.C., where a suspect was charged with attempting to assassinate the president.
Additionally, the agency recalls a 2024 event in West Palm Beach where a man was convicted of a similar attempt. The Secret Service remains on high alert following these repeated threats against the President's life.
