Explore how sensing unspoken emotions impacts your decision making processes
Mysterious changes in temperament often stem from absorbing energy from surrounding individuals
Individuals often experience moments where they suddenly feel uneasy, irritated, or drained without any clear provocation. While the mind attempts to rationalise these shifts, the environment rarely offers a direct explanation.
Such experiences frequently indicate that a person is absorbing the energy of others. According to Jessica Ortner, there are six common signs that one may be carrying emotions that are not actually theirs.
1. Mysterious mood swings that come out of nowhere
A person may feel perfectly fine until a brief interaction or meeting causes a sudden shift. One might feel anxious or mentally foggy, even if nothing negative occurred directly.
This happens when an individual absorbs another’s emotional state. Ortner suggests pausing to ask, "Is this feeling mine?" If not, imagine it leaving the body during exhalation.
2. Unexplained physical discomfort around certain people
Tension or tiredness may manifest around specific people and vanish upon their departure. This is the body physically reflecting environmental emotional stress.
3. Feeling very tired after simple social interactions
Casual conversations can be utterly draining. It is often the emotional energy, rather than the dialogue, that exhausts the system.
4. Sensing what others feel without them saying it
Strong emotional sensitivity allows one to pick up on subtle cues. Ortner recommends picturing those feelings in a separate bubble to avoid internalising them.
5. Feeling overwhelmed in crowded places
Busy markets or public transport can feel overstimulating as one absorbs multiple energies.
6. Making choices based on what others might feel
Adjusting decisions based on sensed expectations can eventually obscure one’s own preferences.
