Actor KJ Apa has publicly lashed out at the elusive TikTok musician known as Mr. Fantasy, accusing him of stealing his identity and damaging his career amid ongoing speculation that the two could be the same person.

In a strongly worded Instagram video posted on Wednesday, May 6, Apa, 28, directly addressed months of online theories suggesting that the mysterious musician is secretly him in disguise.

“There has been something going on for a long time that I haven’t addressed because I didn’t think it was even worth addressing,” Apa said, explaining that he is now speaking out because the situation has allegedly begun affecting his professional life.

The speculation surrounding Mr. Fantasy intensified after his emergence on TikTok in August 2025.

The musician, known for his eccentric style and theatrical persona, has repeatedly denied any connection to Apa or familiarity with the actor’s work in Riverdale.

However, Apa said the online persona has gone beyond harmless rumours, claiming it has caused real damage.

“There was recently a music video that was released that included a bunch of people who are really close to me by a guy who’s completely and utterly stolen my image and misappropriated my image and my likeness,” he said. “It’s f—ed up.”

The controversy stems in part from Mr. Fantasy’s music video for his track “Do Me Right,” which features appearances from several actors linked to Apa, including Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, and Madelaine Petsch.

The video also includes cameos from multiple high-profile celebrities, further fueling online debate about the musician’s identity and industry connections.

Apa alleged that the situation has had serious professional consequences, claiming he recently lost a major acting opportunity.

“I just lost a huge job,” he said, adding that he now fears being taken less seriously in the industry. “I can no longer go in for serious work because people think that I am a joke because of this guy.”

The actor also criticized what he described as the misuse of his likeness, including references to tattoos and personal imagery.

“If anyone thinks it’s okay to take someone’s image, literal tattoos, and use it for their own success, it’s completely wrong,” he said. “Everything that I’ve worked hard for has now come to a halt.”

Mr. Fantasy has not publicly responded to Apa’s latest remarks. However, several celebrities who appeared in his video later expressed regret online, with some apologizing for their involvement and others calling for a resolution between the two sides.

The unusual dispute has become one of the more surreal entertainment stories to emerge from TikTok’s rapidly evolving influencer-music crossover space, where Mr. Fantasy has built a cult following through stylized videos and cryptic public appearances.
