Stanley Tucci shares honest thoughts on marriage and 21-year age gap with wife
The actor says he never expected to remarry after the death of his first wife
Stanley Tucci opened up about his relationship with wife Felicity Blunt, candidly discussing the couple’s 21-year age difference and how their connection ultimately overcame his initial hesitation.
During an appearance on Jenna Bush Hager’s Open Book podcast, the The Devil Wears Prada 2 star admitted he never expected to remarry after the death of his first wife, Kate Tucci, who died in 2009 following a battle with breast cancer.
“Well, look, I wasn’t sure that I would ever remarry,” Tucci said. “I never thought I would have children again.”
The actor explained that his relationship with Blunt developed naturally despite their age difference, saying their connection simply “made sense.”
“When I met her, it just sort of made sense even though there is this age gap of 21 years,” he shared.
Tucci also noted that he already had ties to Blunt’s family before their romance began, as her sister, actress Emily Blunt, had long been one of his close friends.
“We just hit it off,” Tucci said. “We had a lot in common, even though we had nothing in common. And it just sort of stuck.”
The Oscar-nominated actor went on to praise Felicity for bringing stability, warmth, and positivity into both his life and the lives of his children.
According to Tucci, she has been a grounding presence for the family while also sharing his intellectual curiosity and sense of humor.
The couple married in 2012 and have since largely kept their relationship private, though Tucci has occasionally spoken about how transformative the relationship has been following years of grief after losing his first wife.
In a previous BBC interview, Tucci admitted he initially struggled with the age difference between them, but eventually realized the relationship felt right despite his concerns.
