Stanley Tucci and Mark Strong embrace ongoing Hollywood identity mix-up
The actor joked that people often assume the two bald stars are the same person
Stanley Tucci is setting the record straight about one of Hollywood’s most persistent cases of mistaken identity, and it involves fellow actor Mark Strong.
During a recent appearance at 92NY’s Stanley Tucci in Conversation with Josh Horowitz event in New York City on May 5, the Devil Wears Prada 2 star revealed that he is frequently confused with Strong, a comparison he says he takes in stride.
“Mark Strong, always,” Tucci, 65, said when asked which celebrity he is most often mistaken for. “We get complimented on each other’s performances. It’s really great.”
Tucci added that he has nothing but admiration for the British actor, calling him “such a nice person” and “such a great actor.”
When it comes up in everyday life, Tucci said he usually responds simply. “I’m very flattered… I just go, ‘Thank you very much,’” he said.
The Oscar-nominated actor also joked about the similarity between them, quipping after a lighthearted remark that “all attractive bald men do not look alike,” saying, “Apparently, we do.”
The amusing confusion is not one-sided. Strong has previously addressed the comparisons as well, recalling a story during an appearance on BBC’s The One Show in 2025.
He shared that a fan once insisted he sign a poster, thinking he was Tucci, a request he reluctantly fulfilled after she refused to accept otherwise. Strong later discovered Tucci had experienced a similar situation.
“When we met, actually, I had to confess to him that somebody once asked me to sign a poster because they thought I was him,” Strong said. “And he… told me he’s done the same.”
Despite the mix-ups, Strong said the two actors have since become friends and even find humor in their resemblance.
