‘Dune’ star Javier Bardem claims industry backlash is not affecting his career
The actor said he will continue speaking out on global issues despite fears of professional backlash
Javier Bardem says his outspoken political views are not hurting his career—in fact, he claims the opposite is happening.
The 56-year-old actor, known for roles in Dune and No Country for Old Men, says he continues to receive acting opportunities despite speculation about informal Hollywood backlash linked to his activism.
Speaking about the issue, Bardem pointed to what he sees as a broader cultural shift, particularly among younger audiences who are more exposed to global events through digital platforms.
“Everyone is beginning to realise, thanks to the younger generation, who are more aware of situations we’re experiencing quite directly on our phones and on other screens, this is unacceptable,” he said.
He added that he believes efforts to silence outspoken figures are becoming less effective.
“I believe what is happening is quite the contrary,” Bardem said in response to fears of industry blacklisting.
“Those who are drawing up the so-called blacklists will actually be exposed, and they will be the ones suffering the consequences on a public and social level.”
The actor has been consistently vocal about his views, previously stating in an interview with Variety that he feels a responsibility to speak out.
“I’ve always felt that I have microphones and recorders recording my voice, and I have the right to denounce what I think is wrong,” he said.
