Kristen Stewart defies Cannes dress code in sneakers

No trainers on the carpet? At Cannes, certainly not.
The renowned Paris festival’s rigid dress code — freshly revised to prohibit trainers on the red carpet — didn’t deter Kristen Stewart from sporting a stylishly mixed outfit on the Croisette.
The actor turned up at a Friday afternoon photocall for her latest film “Full Phil” sporting a pair of vintage, well-loved saddle-style Nike trainers — just elegant (and Oxford-like) enough to be deemed acceptable for the Croisette.
This 1986 design is rare online, but these black-and-white Mary Janes from Dr. Martens serve as a good substitute.
Her shoe selection was notable not just for its casualness but for its pairing with designer Chanel, a sheer two-piece number from Matthieu Blazy’s 2026 line. For Stewart, who often defies convention, these non-trainer trainers seemed perfectly suited for the Palais steps.
Stewart stayed true to her relaxed style later that evening at the “Full Phil” premiere, teaming a red and black knit Chanel gown from Blazy’s autumn 2026 line with some all-black Converse trainers, straight from her wardrobe.
Although such trainers technically flout the festival’s strict dress regulations, stylists can sometimes stretch the rules, particularly for major stars, provided the overall look is polished. Judging by the online acclaim, Stewart certainly succeeded.
Quentin Dupieux’s “Full Phil” features Stewart and Woody Harrelson as a father-daughter team heading to Paris to reconnect.
Yet, their stay gets disrupted by French cooking, a 1950s horror flick, and an inquisitive hotel staff member. The film debuted at Cannes to a lively five-minute standing ovation despite mixed reviews from critics.
