Jacob Elordi reacts to Nate Jacobs’ shocking coffin death in 'Euphoria' season 3
The actor revealed a real snake was used during the shocking death sequence in 'Euphoria'
Spoilers ahead for the penultimate episode of Euphoria season 3.
Euphoria star Jacob Elordi has opened up about his character’s shocking exit from the hit HBO drama after a brutal and surreal sequence involving a coffin and a snake.
In the May 24 episode, Elordi’s character Nate Jacobs met a violent end after being buried alive in a coffin with limited oxygen, only for a snake to enter through a narrow opening.
Trapped and unable to move, Nate ultimately dies before his body is discovered by Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Maddy (Alexa Demie).
The scene marked one of the most disturbing moments of the season and the first major character death in season 3.
Following the episode, Elordi reflected on filming the sequence during a post-show segment aired on HBO, describing the unusual experience of being confined inside a real coffin on set.
“I had to go into this coffin. My shoulders were touching the side, and I couldn't move my arms, and then they would drill the lid on, and it would get dark,” Elordi said. “It was really nice, actually. It was quite peaceful in there.”
He added that a real snake was used during filming, though the experience was less terrifying than it sounds.
“They had a boa constrictor that they put a fake rattler on the end of, and Sam [Levinson] was like, ‘We’re just gonna drop a snake on you,’” he explained.
Despite the intensity of the scene, Elordi said the animal ended up being unexpectedly calm.
“He was, like, real cuddly… he just saddled up next to me,” he said, adding that he even had to gently nudge the snake at times.
Elordi also reflected on Nate’s arc in the series, saying the character’s ending felt appropriate given his choices throughout the show.
“Nate is someone who’s made so many mistakes and made so many dark choices. It’s cool to see it all come to what it’s come to,” he said.
He described his departure from the role as “bittersweet,” noting how significant the series has been in his career and personal life since joining in 2019.
The Euphoria season 3 finale is set to air Sunday, May 31 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
