Off Campus star Ella Bright says she felt fully comfortable despite her co-star's age gap
Ella Bright says she knew exactly what her role in Off Campus required before filming began at 18
Off Campus actress Ella Bright has said she "couldn't be more comfortable" on set alongside co-star Belmont Cameli, despite widespread fan concern about the nearly ten-year age difference between them.
The 19-year-old portrays Hannah Wells in the hit Prime Video series, which centres on her character's romantic involvement with Garrett Graham, played by 28-year-old Cameli.
Speaking during her Tuesday appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Bright acknowledged public anxiety about the age gap whilst insisting her experience on set was entirely positive.
"I get people's concern, but also not once did I feel, one, left out from being younger than everybody," she said.
"We're all such a family and everyone was just more than perfect, and I couldn't be more comfortable on this set with these people," she continued. "So it is funny when they say that. I'm like 'I'm good.'"
Bright revealed that she was just 18 years old when production commenced, but was fully informed about the demands of the part from the outset.
"I came into this job and during the chemistry reads with more than enough information and knowledge and understanding of what this role required and the show," she said.
The actress, who "just fell in love with Hannah and [the] scripts immediately," added, "There was never a question that I wouldn't want to do this."
Bright also addressed the content of her scenes, explaining that whilst her own role involved partial nudity, her co-star Mika Abdalla — who plays Allie — had been informed from the start that her part would require full nudity.
"That was always from the beginning," Bright insisted. "Everyone had full understanding of what we were going into."
Off Campus is adapted from the hugely popular hockey romance novel series by Elle Kennedy. The first season is based on The Deal, the opening book in the series.
The show follows an elite college ice hockey team at the fictional Briar University as its members navigate romance, friendship, and the complexities of young adulthood.
Season one's central storyline is built around an opposites-attract romance between quiet songwriter Hannah Wells and Briar University's womanising star player, Garrett Graham.
Hannah hatches a fake dating plan with Garrett in order to attract the attention of her crush, Justin, played by Josh Heuston — but matters grow complicated when genuine feelings develop between the two.
All eight episodes of Off Campus were released on 13 May and are currently available to stream on Prime Video.
A second season has already been confirmed and will adapt The Mistake, the second book in Kennedy's Off Campus series.
