Johnny Depp faces reported £520,000 loss after credit card details compromised
Authorities say the unauthorized transactions spanned more than two years
Johnny Depp has reportedly fallen victim to an alleged long-running fraud scheme that may have resulted in losses totaling around £520,000 ($721,000), according to reports.
The 62-year-old actor, who is preparing for his return to the big screen, is said to have had his American Express card details compromised and used for a series of unauthorized transactions over a two-year period.
According to The Sun, the alleged fraudulent activity involved approximately 308 separate transactions carried out between January 2024 and December 2025.
The charges reportedly included luxury online purchases and high-end holiday accommodation bookings, which initially went unnoticed by Depp’s financial team.
Authorities reportedly began investigating the case earlier this year after a U.S. bank flagged suspicious withdrawals linked to an account activity pattern that was later referred to international law enforcement, including the Hungarian branch of the FBI.
Reports further state that a 27-year-old suspect, believed to be living in Budapest, Hungary, was detained after armed forces allegedly searched a rented apartment.
The individual is accused of carrying out the transactions, though he has denied the allegations and maintains his innocence.
The suspect is currently being held in pre-trial detention under a court order as the investigation continues.
If confirmed, the case would represent one of the more significant celebrity-targeted financial fraud incidents in recent years, involving high-value spending spread across hundreds of transactions.
Depp has not publicly commented on the matter.
