Alexandra Grant opens up about long-term bond with Keanu Reeves at wine launch
Grant and Reeves have been publicly together since 2019
Visual artist Alexandra Grant is offering a rare insight into her long-term relationship with actor Keanu Reeves, saying that “mutual respect” and creative independence have been the foundation of their bond.
Speaking to People at the launch of her new wine brand LOVEwine in Los Angeles on May 28, Grant reflected on her partnership with Reeves, 61, describing their relationship as one built on shared values, collaboration, and a deep respect for each other’s individual creative processes.
“I’d say the key to it is the mutual respect,” Grant said. “And also just like, come on, it’s play, right? It’s play that we get to play creatively.”
Grant explained that both she and Reeves, who have been publicly together since 2019, prioritize allowing each other space to focus deeply on their respective work while still supporting one another.
“You want to always be respectful and leave the other person to bake their cake,” she added, emphasizing the importance of independence within their relationship.
The couple first collaborated professionally on the 2011 book Ode to Happiness, with Reeves as the writer and Grant as illustrator. They later co-founded a publishing house in 2017 before going public with their relationship two years later.
Since then, the pair have occasionally appeared together at public events, including recent red carpet appearances at film premieres.
Grant also spoke about how their creative lives often run in parallel rather than in competition. She noted that Reeves is “cautious” with feedback during artistic processes, while she follows a similar approach in her own work as a visual artist.
“There is all the listening in the world that we know that we could talk about any problem or creative idea and talk about it forever,” she said, adding that both prioritize when to collaborate and when to work independently.
She also acknowledged the demands of Reeves’ acting career, explaining that when he is in character for a project, she fully respects the intensity of that process.
“When I’m in painter mode, I am in it,” she said, comparing it to a performance-like state similar to acting.
Beyond her personal life, Grant also used the event to introduce her new wine brand LOVEwine, a collaboration inspired by her art initiative grantLOVE and her childhood experiences in Paris.
She said Reeves was unable to attend the launch due to work commitments, including recent filming and musical performances with his band Dogstar.
Despite their busy schedules, Grant emphasized that both support each other’s independent creative pursuits while celebrating their shared journey.
