Sydney Sweeney has made it clear that while her Euphoria character embraces an OnlyFans storyline in the show's third season, she has no interest in following that path in real life.

The 28-year-old actress revealed that she agreed to film several nude scenes as part of Cassie Howard's latest arc because she believed it was essential to portraying the character authentically.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Sweeney said she approached the storyline as an actor committed to bringing creator Sam Levinson's vision to life.

According to Sweeney, Levinson shared the scripts with her before production began and discussed Cassie's OnlyFans storyline in detail.

While she acknowledged that she does not personally agree with many of Cassie's choices, she emphasized the distinction between herself and the troubled character she portrays.

“Look, I'm playing a character,” Sweeney said. “Do I agree with all of Cassie's decisions? Would I personally make these choices? No, of course not.”

The actress explained that her goal was to portray Cassie in “the most vulnerable and insane way possible,” believing the storyline reflected the character's ongoing struggle for love, validation and self-worth.

Sweeney noted that Cassie's emotional journey has been evident since the beginning of the HBO drama.

She argued that the character's decision to pursue online attention stems from her desire to feel loved and recognized by others.

“From the very beginning, you can see that Cassie has this need to be loved,” she said.

“She has a need to be validated by other people. She doesn't know how to love herself unless someone else loves her.”

The actress added that she understood how Levinson developed the controversial storyline, suggesting that Cassie was drawn less to the platform itself and more to the attention and approval she believed it could provide.

The third season's explicit content has sparked debate among viewers, but Sweeney has defended the creative choices behind her character's arc.

In fact, Levinson recently revealed that it was Sweeney who encouraged him not to soften the storyline.

Speaking to The New York Times, the Euphoria creator recalled initially considering ways to film around the nudity.

However, Sweeney pushed back, arguing that avoiding such scenes would undermine the reality of portraying an OnlyFans creator.

Levinson said the actress responded by asking, “Are you kidding? I'm playing an OnlyFans model. You're telling me you're going to skirt around it?”
