The country star shared an emotional message onstage, calling Bunnie Xo his best friend
Jelly Roll has spoken out for the first time about his divorce from Bunnie Xo, making it clear that their separation was not caused by cheating rumors.
The country music star, whose real name is Jason DeFord, addressed the split during his Little ASS Shed Tour stop in Saratoga Springs, New York, on Thursday, June 18, where he told fans he wanted to set the record straight.
“While we’re talking about liars, the internet is a liar too,” Jelly Roll said while speaking to the crowd. “This is the only time and the only city I’m going to speak about this.”
The 41-year-old singer then shared an emotional message about his estranged wife, saying their relationship remains filled with love and respect.
“Me and my wife are best friends, we will always be best friends. I will love her,” he said. “She will probably be the only woman I’ll ever love the way I loved her.”
Jelly Roll also addressed speculation surrounding their breakup, firmly denying that infidelity played any role in their decision to divorce.
“Nobody cheated on nobody,” he told fans, adding that Bunnie Xo had already explained the situation on her Dumb Blonde podcast.
Earlier the same day, Bunnie Xo, whose real name is Alisa DeFord, opened up about their separation and revealed that their divorce is expected to be finalized soon. She also shared that the former couple still plans to have a baby together.
“We’re still having a baby together,” Bunnie said during her podcast episode.
She explained that despite ending their marriage, the two will remain connected and continue supporting each other.
“We have been the most unconventional couple that you guys have ever encountered,” she said. “J is my best friend. This isn’t what you guys think this is. Nobody cheated on the other person.”
Jelly Roll echoed her comments onstage, saying, “Every word of it is the truth,” before expressing his continued love for Bunnie.
“That will be my best friend forever. Bunnie, I love you baby,” he said.
The couple married in August 2016 and spent nearly a decade together. According to court documents, Jelly Roll filed for divorce in Williamson County, Tennessee, with the separation date listed as May 9.
The filing cited irreconcilable differences as the reason behind their split.
