Zendaya fell for Holland during 2017 drag performance: source
  • Source says Holland's 2017 'Umbrella' drag act won Zendaya over
  • Insider calls performance, with fireworks, the moment that 'sealed deal'
  • Holland confirmed secret marriage to Zendaya in Esquire interview

A source has claimed that Tom Holland's viral performance of "Umbrella" was the exact moment Zendaya became "smitten" with her now-husband. The insider made the claim to the Mail on Sunday.

The Euphoria actress was said to have fallen "hard for" Holland after witnessing his fishnet-clad, rain-soaked 2017 drag performance of Rihanna's "Umbrella" during an episode of Lip Sync Battle, according to the source.

Performance described as 'sealing the deal'

The insider reportedly told the newspaper that the daring performance, complete with fireworks, "sealed the deal" for the Greatest Showman star, 29. "It's not just sexy but it shows how amazingly talented he is," the source told the outlet. "It takes a lot of confidence for a straight guy to pull off drag."

During the performance, which has since gone viral, the Dune actress could be seen gaping and laughing in disbelief as Holland performed sultry choreography in black frilly shorts and a latex corset top.

Source addresses Spider-Man casting doubts

The insider also referenced early scepticism about Holland's casting as Spider-Man. "When he was announced as Spider–Man, people were taken aback because he's slightly wimpy," the source told the outlet. "But what he lacks in stature he more than makes up for in talent."

They added of the famous moment: "You can see the shock on her face but then the admiration. I'm sure it's something they will show their kids one day."

Report follows marriage confirmation

The report emerged just days after the Spider-Man: Far From Home actor, 30, confirmed he and Zendaya are husband and wife, following months of speculation. During an interview with Esquire published on Tuesday, the Avengers: Endgame actor was asked whether he had to clarify to family that AI photos of them at a wedding celebration were fake.

"No, because they were all there," Holland said, adding, "That's all you'll get on that."

Holland praises married life

Holland made no secret of the fact that marriage to the Emmy winner has been good to him. "She's my best friend, and I'm the happiest I have ever been when I'm with her," he told Esquire. "But I have also never felt so supported and safe, ever. Period."

A relationship timeline years in the making

The couple was first romantically linked back in 2017 amid filming of Spider-Man: Homecoming, though they didn't go public until 2021.

In February, Zendaya set the rumour mill alight by wearing a simple gold band instead of her multi-carat engagement ring during an outing in Beverly Hills. Her stylist, Law Roach, subsequently told Access Hollywood at the SAG Actor Awards in March that "The wedding has already happened," adding, "You missed it. It's very true."
