  • Odd Couple revival stalled due to Hart's packed schedule

Dwayne Johnson has revealed he has spent nearly three years quietly developing a Broadway debut, though the project has repeatedly stalled due to scheduling conflicts with his long-time collaborator Kevin Hart.

Speaking to People, the actor said he and Hart had been working towards a stage production together since around 2022 or 2023. "For the past two and a half to three years, we have been working on my Broadway debut," Johnson said, adding that he was only disclosing the plans now with the help of tequila.

The pair had reportedly set their sights on a revival of Neil Simon's The Odd Couple, with Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller attached. However, Johnson said Hart's demanding filming commitments over the coming years have made the project unworkable for now. He said he understood and respected his friend's decision to prioritise other work, despite his disappointment.

Johnson and Hart have appeared together in several films, including Central Intelligence and two instalments of the Jumanji franchise. The pair will next share the screen in Jumanji: Open World, due for release on Christmas Day.

Despite the setback, Johnson said he remains determined to make his stage debut, with or without Hart involved. He suggested the project could yet take a different form, joking he might instead pursue a musical role, though no firm plans have been confirmed.

The actor said he continues to hold discussions with producer Jeffrey Seller and director Thomas Kail, best known for Hamilton, as he explores further options for a future theatre project.
