  • The Batman Part II has been delayed to February 18, 2028.
  • Director Matt Reeves shared new camera test footage alongside the announcement.
  • Warner Bros reshuffled other major titles, including J.J. Abrams' next feature.

Warner Bros delayed the highly anticipated superhero sequel The Batman Part II once again, pushing its theatrical release date to February 18, 2028. The film was initially scheduled to debut in cinemas on October 2, 2026, before the studio postponed it to October 1, 2027. The latest postponement marks the second major scheduling shift for the high-profile comic book sequel.

Variety reported that the strategic scheduling change is intended to grant director Matt Reeves and his production team additional time to complete extensive post-production work. Reeves officially announced the new February 2028 release date on Thursday. To coincide with the announcement, the filmmaker shared the first camera test footage of lead actor Robert Pattinson reprising his role as the Caped Crusader.

The latest delay follows prior online commentary from DC Studios co-chief James Gunn, who previously defended the extended production gap between the franchise instalments. Writing on the social media platform Threads, Gunn argued that a five-year gap or more is fairly common for blockbuster sequels. He highlighted historically significant intervals, including the seven-year gap between Alien and Aliens, the 14-year gap between The Incredibles films, and the six-year gap between Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Vol. 3.

The postponement of The Batman Part II is part of a wider calendar reshuffle of the Warner Bros theatrical slate. Director J.J. Abrams' upcoming science-fiction film The Great Beyond, starring Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega, has moved from its previous date to occupy the vacant October 1, 2027 slot. Additionally, the thriller Panic Carefully, directed by Sam Esmail and starring Julia Roberts, has been pushed back from February 26, 2027, to April 9, 2027.
