Anya Taylor-Joy found a creative way to keep up with Argentina’s World Cup victory while attending Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding.

The Queen’s Gambit actress, 30, revealed that she was unable to follow Argentina’s 2026 FIFA World Cup match against Cape Verde because it took place during Swift and Kelce’s phone-free wedding celebration at Madison Square Garden in New York City on July 3.

While promoting her new Apple TV miniseries Lucky, Taylor-Joy played LADbible’s “Swipe Stuff” game and opened up about missing Lionel Messi’s goal during Argentina’s dramatic 3-2 extra-time win in the Round of 32.

A passionate supporter of the Argentina national team, Taylor-Joy explained that guests were not allowed to use their phones at the star-studded event, leaving her without access to live updates.

Fortunately, a waiter at the reception recognized her and quietly shared the result.

“I was actually in a phone-free event recently, and somebody that was working the tables, a waiter, came up to me and was like, ‘Just so you know, Argentina’s just won,’ ” Taylor-Joy recalled.

The actress said she immediately celebrated the news, adding, “Then I was like, ‘Yes!’ ”

She also thanked Messi for helping Argentina secure the victory, saying, “Thank you, Messi! Thank you for making our country so proud.”

Taylor-Joy attended the wedding alongside singer Kesha, with the pair photographed together wearing matching black gowns during the celebration.

The couple’s wedding reportedly welcomed around 1,000 guests, including stars such as Ed Sheeran, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, Sabrina Carpenter, Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks, Bradley Cooper and Dakota Johnson. Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony, while performers including Stevie Nicks and Paul McCartney took the stage during the reception.
