Timothy Busfield says career ‘done’ amid child sex abuse case
Writer claims allegations cost him work as he denies charge
Timothy Busfield testified that his career is "done" as he fights child sex abuse charges, claiming the allegations have cost him acting roles, a movie credit and representation by his agency.
According to court documents obtained by USA Today, Busfield told a grand jury in February that the accusations had devastated his personal and professional life.
"My children, grandchildren, everybody in my life is done because of these false allegations," he testified, adding that he had been "canceled" and would "never work again."
Busfield also claimed he had lost television projects, was digitally replaced in a film and was dropped by his talent agency.
The 69-year-old denied inappropriately touching two 7-year-old actors on The Cleaning Lady, though he acknowledged tickling them and putting his arms around them. He alleged the boys' parents fabricated the accusations after the twins were dropped from the Fox series, where they reportedly earned a combined $30,000 per episode.
Busfield denies allegations, trial set for 2027
Busfield was arrested in January on allegations of child abuse and criminal sexual contact involving two child actors. Prosecutors later charged him with four counts of criminal sexual contact of a child under 13.
One of the boys alleged Busfield touched his genitals over his clothing multiple times. The actor has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.
His wife, Melissa Gilbert, has publicly supported him, previously describing him as "the last person in the world who would hurt a child." His trial is scheduled to begin in May 2027.
