Jessica Chastain plays terrifying double in 'Other Mommy' trailer

Jessica Chastain is embracing horror once again, taking on a chilling dual role in the newly released trailer for Other Mommy, which is set to arrive in theaters on Oct. 9.

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse unveiled the first look at the supernatural thriller on Tuesday, revealing Chastain as both a loving mother named Ursula and a sinister entity that takes on her appearance.

The film follows young Bela, played by Arabella Olivia Clark, who forms an unsettling bond with the mysterious figure she calls "Other Mommy."

In the trailer, the eerie doppelgänger quietly prepares food for Bela despite being warned not to leave her room. 

The tension escalates when Ursula's husband, portrayed by Jay Duplass, discovers the creature hiding beneath a kitchen table with its limbs twisted into a spider-like pose.

Although Bela insists that "Other Mommy" is kind, the trailer hints that the supernatural presence has far darker intentions.

According to the official synopsis, the film is “a terrifying trip into the darkening world of a young girl, Bela, who forms a relationship with a sinister entity in her home who looks uncannily like her own mother.”

The project is directed by Rob Savage and is based on the 2025 novel Incidents Around the House.

Chastain, who won the Academy Award for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, is no stranger to the horror genre. 

She previously starred in Mama (2013) and It: Chapter Two (2019) before shifting her focus to acclaimed dramas, including Memory, Mothers' Instinct and Dreams.

The supporting cast includes Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed and Karen Allen.

Other Mommy marks Chastain's latest return to horror, with the film set to hit theaters on Oct. 9.
