Actor Ryan Reynolds made a surprise appearance dressed as superhero character Deadpool at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, walking the floor at the San Diego Convention Centre to interact with fans undercover.

Deadline reported that the Golden Globe nominee subsequently shared a behind-the-scenes video on social media platform X documenting his visit. Reynolds expressed gratitude towards supporters who originally helped establish the film franchise, noting that the appearance took place ten years after the first movie and two years after Deadpool & Wolverine.

During the event, Reynolds joined Marvel’s Hall H presentation alongside Avengers: Doomsday cast members. Actor Robert Downey Jr., appearing as character Doctor Doom, addressed Reynolds on stage before the actor spoke to the cheering crowd using a microphone.

The appearance followed statements Reynolds made at Fantastic Fest in New York, where he confirmed that a fourth Deadpool film is currently in development. Reynolds mentioned that upcoming projects would incorporate material from comic writers Fabian Nicieza and Gerry Duggan, noting that another film would eventually be released.

Reynolds first played a version of the anti-hero character in the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. After test footage leaked online in 2014, he starred in the 2016 release Deadpool, earning a Golden Globe nomination for his performance.

The actor subsequently reprised the role in 2018 for Deadpool 2 and again in 2024 for Deadpool & Wolverine. The 2024 release generated $1.3 billion globally, pushing total box office receipts for the film franchise past the $2 billion threshold.
