Why Eric Roberts missed Emma Roberts' wedding to Cody John

Eric Roberts broke his silence after missing daughter Emma Roberts' wedding to actor Cody John, saying he fully supports how she chose to celebrate her special day.

Emma, 35, married John in an outdoor ceremony in Sun Valley, Idaho, on July 25. Speaking to Page Six two days later, Eric addressed his absence from the wedding.

"I love my daughter, always have, always will," Eric said in a statement.

"It is perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she wants, with whomever she wants."

Eric welcomed Emma with former partner Kelly Cunningham in 1991. He has previously spoken publicly about his struggles with drug addiction and acknowledged that he was not emotionally dependable when Emma was born.

Earlier this year, the actor said speculation about his relationship with Emma was often misunderstood, insisting their family dynamic appeared more complicated to outsiders than it actually is.

While Eric did not attend the wedding, Emma's aunt, Julia Roberts, was among the guests alongside her husband, Danny Moder.

Emma's 5-year-old son, Rhodes Robert Hedlund, whom she shares with former partner Garrett Hedlund, also attended the celebration.

The actress wore a custom Monique Lhuillier gown, while John chose a brown suit for the outdoor ceremony, where the couple exchanged vows beside a river before family and friends.

Emma and Cody tied the knot after four years together

Emma and John made their relationship public in August 2022 and announced their engagement in July 2025.

The couple married after about four years of dating, with Emma later sharing photos from the ceremony on social media.
